Losang Thonden is a Tibetan language scholar, author, calligrapher and actor. == Early life == (Losang Thonden ) was born on 23 May 1942 in Lhasa to a Wangdue Khangsar family. His father Shertsong Pasang Tsering was a prominent official businessman in Lhasa who was commissioned by the Tibetan Government and had travelled extensively in India, Nepal, China and Mongol. Thonden is the grandson of Sherpa Gyalpo Khangsar, one of the richest and the most prolific Tibetan businessmen in Lhasa in early 1920s, he had a very close business ties with the Royal family of Nepal. In 1949 his family hired an officer from the Nepalese Embassy in Lhasa, Darma Bhabu, to teach him Basic English, Math and Nepali. His cousin sister Kalsang Yangki Talka (former Tibetan Education Minister and Ambassador to England) also taught him English. He also studied English under a retired British officer Major Ken. Thonden at the age of 15 was one of the few selected students in entire Lhasa by the Tibetan Central Government in conjunction with Beijing Government as an elite student ambassador to study at Beijing University to promote bilateral cultural brotherhood. But his family especially his mother Kungchok Dolma Khangsar a strong Tibetan nationalist refused her son to be sent to Communist China. He was then send to Dakyap JangshupLing Ladang (pronounced as Laprang) on the request of his uncle Lobsang Tenzin who was the executor of the Ladang estate. Dakyap Ladang was north of Lhasa in Penpo region of Tibet. There he studied under the tutelage of Dakyap Rinpoche (Nawang Losang Yeshi) who was the direct linage of Dakyap Tulku a part of Sera Mey Monstery.
